Lo5 Evaluating the negative impact of my product

Within this report, I will be critically evaluating how my proposed product may have any negative effects on my target audience. I Will discuss the possible negative effects the consistent use of my product could have on my target audience and other consumers. Plus, I will also explain how I will avoid and prevent these negative effects from damaging my target audience. Before we finish, I will explain any key problems that my product could have on society as well as many key passive audience theorists that could effect my audience.

Firstly, by including a messaging and networking system into my app. I may have allowed access to Trolls, bully's, and bot accounts that could effect how some users access my app. Many of these things are prevalent problems that plague SoundCloud and YouTube to this day and ruin the experience for most users on the apps. By allowing trolls and bully's on my app, I risk ruining the experience for a majority of my users, and allowing my target audience to be attacked, which may draw people out of using my app. Certain applications like KiK and SoundCloud, have already been overrun with trolling and fake bot account which have ruined the reputation of the apps making them less popular. Which is why I will take major precautions that will help prevent these problems from occurring on my app. Firstly, I will ensure that users cannot use offensive language in my app and include options for users to block trolls who may be harassing them. I will do this to ensure users enjoy their experience when using my app and are more include to become an avid user. As a personal user of SoundCloud, the bot accounts that have taken over the app have limited the potential community connections and networking that users could use. To ensure this doesn't become a problem for my app, I will add AI software similar to YouTube's copyright system, to ensure that bot accounts can be reported and banned from the app. Limiting these bot accounts will make my app safer and more reliable for my target audience to use. Overall, the inclusion of messaging and network features into my app could produce negative effect son my target audience. So, when building the app, I must take the precautions and also control the damage that they could potentially have on users experiencing the app for the first time.

Example of the Bot accounts that flood Soundcloud comment sections and messages

Another passive audience theory was created in 1972 by Stanley Cohen called the moral panic theory. The moral panic theory states the instances of when the mass public concern or panic in response to a media product which threatens groups of people with discrimination or questions the morals of society. An example of this within my product is social media and communication. In my app, I plan on including networking features that will allow users to connect and share their ideas and opinions on the music they like. However, I do have to take note that a lot of people (mainly parents or people who are in older generations) may see these features as dangerous for their children. This this can be proven true because social media can lead to low self esteem and create negative relationships between people. Plus, it can be used by dangerous people to groom children or spread false information that could lead to moral panic from my target audience. To ensure users are safe when using my app, I will add blocking/ reporting features that they can use to against other users. Plus, I will make the app 12+ on all app stores and include warnings messages for parents who may want to know if my app could potentially be dangerous for them.

in conclusion, I have explained through passive audience theory how my product could be potentially dangerous for my target audience. Plus, included how I will combat these dangers and make my platform a more safer experience for users who plan on using my product for communication, music creation and sharing.
