Lo1 report: Be able to research the development of digital media technologies to support the planning of a new product

PRODUCT IDEA

The idea that I have thought about is a music streaming service that will link to different music streaming services such as Spotify, SoundCloud, and YouTube music. The app will feature music editing software such as equalisers, and reverb effects that users will be able to use to edit their music to their tasting. Along with this, the app will notify users when artists drop new music, and it will also recommend artist and upcoming releasing from artist the user likes. The app will also give the user the ability to add friends and other people who use the app. They will be communication features and it will show the user what song their friend is listening to and the streaming service they are using. The app will utilise Web 2.0 and 3.0 features to recommend users music from certain artists, and allow them to interact with them.

Ever since Web 1.0, music has moved to digital applications. With MP3s and WAVs being used on applications like the iPhone and iPod. More recently, Web 2.0 has allowed for the introduction of streaming services such as Spotify, SoundCloud, and Apple Music. These applications allow users to access an unlimited amount of content for a certain price a month. This has made it easier for customers to access content and also become prosumers and release their own music on streaming services. Also, applications such as Fl Studio and Logic  xl, users are able to edit their favourite songs and so that they can make a remixed version of it. While some apps like Spotify have tried to implement some editing features into their apps, they only offer minimal changes such as volume, frequency changes, or playback audio. These features influenced me to create an app that is similar to all these, but with more empathise on user creation and editing, allowing them to edit tracks and add them to personal playlists all while on their phone or laptop. The app will use both Web 2.0 and 3.0 methods to market different playlists and user generated content. This was inspired from Beat-stars system of marketing beats to users similar to watch them normally listen to. Plus connecting users so that content can be shared more easier.

Developments in technology such as the introduction of social media, will allow me to sponsor musicians and influencers to advertise my product. This would consist of below the line marketing methods as I will be advertising the product directly to my target audience, with the backing from popular, influential figures. Also, I hope to allow users to link their other music services to this app. This means I can use synergy to market my product alongside other streaming services to ensure users are notified about my product. Along with this, I will also be using cross promotion to ensure that my product will be advertised alongside adverts of Spotify. This can be achieved by having radio advertisements play after songs that influence the user to download the app and link their Spotify to offer a better experience. This will ensure that I will build a wider target audience who will download my app and use it. Plus, I will make the app cross platform so that it would be able to be compatible with multiple different devices such as Laptops, phones, tablets, and PCs. This will ensure that more people will be able to access the app while on the go or at home. Ensuring that they will always have the ability to use the features it contains, wherever they are. Also, opportunities such as synergy allow conglomerates to advertise their subsidiary services on their platforms. Conglomerates such as Apple and Amazon have music streaming services that they advertise on their other sectors. Amazon music is advertised on Amazon prime and their streaming service as adverts, while Apple advertises Apple Music on their streaming service Apple TV, and they have it advertised on their App Store and have it downloaded on their phones when you buy one.
